Facebook is the most successful social media website to date, which keeps everyone engaged. Now, when we are addicted to social media, accepting changes become a little difficult. Facebook underwent a number of changes, and Timeline for Pages is the best. Therefore, if you are a blogger this feature is particularly useful to you to promote your content. There are greater chances that you need to learn timeline inside out and use it to your advantage. It is much easier if you know every component and use it to the advantage of your blog marketing campaign.

The intent of Timeline is to present a life history of yours in a way. On Timeline, you can post all the important events of your life, and even highlight some of the important events and hide others. If all of these sound confusing to you and you have no clue why timeline is important, then you need to keep reading.

Publishing Blog Posts

Timeline has numerous ways, which will make your content most compelling to most of the people. You need to begin by adding a “star” to it. When you publish a story on your Facebook Timeline, your page should give your visitors with numerous options to browse through your account. One of the best ways to do this is use highlighted content. When you mark this content with a star, this post becomes the most important blog post and will have an extended exposure.

Then again, you can also try pinning your blog post to the top of your Timeline. This way you make sure that, your post is visible to every reader who visits your page. When you pin a story, the width doubles and remains at the top of the page for the next seven days. After seven days, the post will appear as a regular post on the Timeline chronological update.

Cover Photo

Just like, you have a header for your blog or website, Timeline has a cover photo and is big enough to catch the eye of your visitors. The cover page appears at the top of your page. No matter what picture you are using, it should be able to debrief your fans what your blog is all about! Make sure that you use an image, which will make your page stand out, and also engage your followers for a couple of seconds.

Milestones

Facebook Timeline has a feature named Milestones. This feature enables the page owners to display their achievements and development of a brand through the years. A blog owner can utilize this to show off the numerous awards and laurels that they have received or any blogging events that they joined. Milestones allow you to speak your mind and also build a strong connection between your visitors and your content.

Timeline Apps

Facebook Timeline gives wonderful exposure of your apps as well. The apps are displayed as thumbnail images right beneath the cover image. The first apps will direct your fans to the images that you have uploaded on the page. You can use the next three tabs for other important things like your videos, contests, special offers and even your online store. The new Facebook Page lets you create up to 12 apps.

Timeline for Pages is not an optional choice, and bloggers can use their Facebook Page timeline for marketing purpose. However, this is one forced opportunity that escalates blog marketing to a completely new height. All you will need to do is learn and experiment with the Timeline and discover new ways how you can use it for your advantage.

The guys and gals over at Search Engine Watch (SEW) released an article today pertaining to the most recent Google update, Penguin, which hit the internet world by storm on April 26, 2012. If your website wasn’t affected kudos to you! If you were one of the unfortunate few (/sarcasm) then please take a look at their article to see what options are available to you.

Article begins:

Another update, another dose of mayhem. This time the mayhem is called Penguin. As with all Google updates over the years, there have been winners and losers.

Before we start panicking, we should remember that for Google to survive and continue dominating in the next decade it has put in huge effort to keep its SERPs relevant, useful, and clean of spam. As a reminder, Penguin isn’t the first major update Google has rolled out in the past 10 years:

We won’t go into detail on each of these, as plenty has already been written about these updates on Search Engine Watch and elsewhere. Instead, let’s focus on the one theme that runs through each of them: To keep spam in check. Granted, Google’s definition of spam has varied, but generally they have done a good job of being vocal in the community through Matt Cutts, head of Google’s web spam team, and also through Google’s own Webmaster guidelines.

Some websites are out to make a quick buck (not thinking of their customers/visitors), or they have been misguided by an agency…More at Hit by Google Penguin?

Social networks are powerful tools for promoting your brand and attracting new readers for your blog or customers for your products. But if you have no followers, you have no audience, and your presence has no impact.

Building a large following on social networks like Twitter and Facebook take time, just like building the subscribers on your blog. However, shortcuts exist. If you want to grow your list of followers in a hurry, you can do so with just the click of a mouse — and a few dollars.

Hundreds and thousands of followers can be purchased on a number of sites for a relatively small amount of money. The question is: Should you buy them? Does purchasing followers actually help your social media strategy? Here are some of the pros and cons of buying followers for your Facebook and Twitter profiles:

Pros

You Appear In Demand

Social media is all about popularity. Who has the most followers? Who has the most likes? Who has the most retweets? If you have a large following, you will seem more popular to other users, and they may feel more compelled to also follow you. Like breeds like.

If nothing else, a large following makes other users notice you. When you have thousands of followers, other users have to ask, “What’s all the fuss about?”

You Increase Your Ranking

Google also notices your popularity — as do Twitter and Facebook. The more followers you have, the higher you appear in search results for Google, Twitter, and Facebook. Whenever someone searches for terms related to your product or service, they are more likely to stumble on to your page.

You Expand Your Network

Even if your followers aren’t real, their followers may be. The more people who follow you — real or fake — the greater your network and the further your reach. Followers of followers may discover your page or your posts and lead back to your products or services, leading to greater conversion rates.

Cons

Your Audience Isn’t Targeted

When you pay for people to follow you, you aren’t also paying for them to care. You only know one thing about your audience: They like getting money to do simple things. You don’t know how old they are. You don’t know what kind of products they like. You don’t know any of their interests. Therefore, you don’t know whether they have any interest in your product or service.

Seeing conversion from purchased followers is unlikely. Any conversion you do get is likely a result of coincidence.

They Aren’t “Real”

When you buy followers, you don’t know how many of them are real profiles for real people and how many of them are dummy profiles. If they are dummy profiles, they are likely not connected to anyone else, limiting the reach of your network and your potential to leverage search results.

You Risk Negative Exposure

If any of your followers are real, they may be tempted to try to connect with the other paid followers through your Facebook wall or Twitter feed. For example, they may ask “Who else here is a paid follower?” or “What other profiles are looking for paid followers?” Any comments like this could expose you to the real followers you have earned and embarrass you.

Whether or not to purchase followers is a controversial issue that usually comes down to personal preference and overall brand strategy. If you are just starting out and are struggling to attract new followers, then purchasing a few to give your profile a jump start may be helpful. However, you should be careful not to fill your profile with fake followers, thereby defeating the true purpose of your social media presence, which is to increase your conversion rates.

With JS Masonry, some advanced layout controls to set the site width and a header that can be fixed or floated next to the site you can really have some fun customising it.

Here’s my list of the 5 most important WordPress plugins used on every one of my websites. Some of these are not free, but most are. None of these are in any specific order of importance and I tried to not show any favoritism (you know which one you are).

BackupBuddy – The most important thing for a blog (besides content and readers) is a good backup! If you are running any website and do not have a regular backup you are crazy.

Google XML Sitemaps – This nifty little plugin submits your XML sitemap to Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask, etc.

Widget Logic – This plugin gives every widget an extra control field called “Widget logic” that lets you control the pages that the widget will appear on.

Contact Form 7 – Creates submission forms with a very clean and easy interface. Bonus: If you need something more powerful, I suggest Gravity Forms.

WordPress SEO – This plugin was written by Joost de Valk. This guy is the man when it comes to WordPress. Any plugin by Yoast is great for WordPress.

I know there are many other important plug-ins out there, but these are the first five I install on every new WordPress site. I didn’t include Akismet since that was too easy, especially since it is already included with WordPress from the get go.

Any plugins you feel are more important than these five listed above? Tell me!

Given the two ads below about free CRM software, which one do you think outperformed the other in a split test? Made a decision? Here are the results:

Sam Cooke once sang that the best things in life are free – like flowers in spring, robins that sing, and CRM software. OK, fine, maybe not that last one.

We all love free things, or at the very least, are intrigued by them. So given the two ads below about free CRM software, which one do you think outperformed the other in a split test?

Made a decision? Here are the results:

Ad 1 outperformed Ad 2 by a whopping 106 percent increase in CTR. Let’s dissect both ads to better understand why.

About the Losing Ad

The losing ad makes the fatal mistake, a mistake all too common among software providers, of assuming that a free trial or a free-but-limited sample will automatically win the prospect’s desire to engage in the service.
