How To Write An Article That Helps People And Attracts Traffic At The Same Time

License: Creative Commons image source

When you write an article it’s very easy to forget why you’re doing it. You might get caught up in the fact it should be helpful to your readers, but that is not all it should do. It will need to help attract people to your site otherwise nobody will read it and you won’t help anyone. Do you have any idea how you can help people and attract traffic at the same time?

Pick out a keyword

Before you write anything it helps to have a keyword in mind because you want to rank for something that will bring you a lot of traffic down the road. When you pick one out it helps if thousands of people are searching for the exact phrase each month. When you start gaining more authority and build more backlinks pointing towards the page there is a good chance you will see great results.

Solve a problem

When people type something into Google they are sometimes trying to solve a problem they’re having. If your article specifically solves this problem it might mean your article will be at the top of the search results for whatever they typed in, even if you didn’t target the keyword phrase in the first place. Solving specific problems goes a long way and it’s something you must do regularly.

Have a strong opinion

If you don’t have a strong opinion about anything you can’t expect anyone to get excited when they read your article. If they don’t get excited they will not share it with everyone. That is a pity because if they start sharing it you will be able to sit back while backlinks are built for you. If you don’t have an opinion that some people disagree with then what is the point in writing anything?

Praise people

Thank You

What would you do if someone mentioned you in an article? If it was something bad you would want to make sure nobody saw it, but if the article was praising you I bet you’d want as much people to know about it as possible. You would link to it and send that person a lot of traffic, plus you’d be giving them a strong backlink at the same time.

Aim it at someone

You have certain people that already read your blog and they will quite happily consume everything you publish, but you want to reach out to other people to attract new fans. If you write an article that specifically targets a certain group of people you can reach out to them once it’s written. Invite them to your blog and ask them to link to it so their friends can read it too.

Publish it somewhere else

If you have an article written it doesn’t mean to say it must be published on your website. It could quite easily be used as a guest post for someone else. You are still helping people and you will also get traffic because of the link pointing back to your site at the end of the article. If you do this a lot you will end up with lots of powerful links pointing back to your site that will improve your search engine rankings.

Anyone who has read Smashing Magazine, ProBlogDesign, and WPHacks has read articles by Jean-Baptiste Jung. He was also highly talked about in mid 2009 when he created a Digg-like website with the WordPress core called WPVote. This was without altering the core and not bridging in platforms like Pligg.

Jean-Baptiste is really busy and just seeing all the websites he blogs for, I was really lucky to catch up with him via email for an interview. Here was the interview…. hope you enjoy!

Mommy Blogging and Site Disclosure Policy: Is it For You?

Disclosure policies are something that bloggers are creating on their own, or using websites like DisclosurePolicy.org for several purposes:

1. Inform readers that you may or may not accept pay to review posts.
2. Upkeep the integrity of the blogger who stands behind certain products whether or not they are paid to write about them.
3. What kind of content you will share with your readers.

For mommy bloggers (and daddy bloggers out there), this is really important. Many write about products they use and recommend in everyday life. Some may accept pay while others do not. Some blog and their post may conflict with their own opinion.

Site disclosures are for everyone. Whether you generate one, or write up your own, you are assuring your readers on what you will be sharing with them. Of course,

SEO advice: Commenting on blogs

This topic came up on site-reference.com and it is a common topic for people looking to improve SEO. It is important to know about because if you’re running a fansite or fan fiction archive and wanting to learn SEO through link building, this method is probably one of the first one’s you’ll see.

Commenting on blogs can help increase your traffic in two ways: 1) Click throughs on your name or from links in your comment. 2) Search engines if the links are not rel=nofollow. For the second, the advice is that the more you comment on a diverse range of blogs, the more search engine juice you’ll get and the more visits from Google you’ll get. Bad SEO people encourage you to comment as much as possible where ever the links are rel=follow. What these bad SEO people fail to tell you is that doing so can actually hurt your SEO because you may end up on blacklist as a spammer. People report spam to services they use like akismet, disqus, etc.
